This was so aesthetic and absolutely beautiful! My favourite part of the week was when I used to go swimming at the YMCA (and eat burgers afterward cause I was famished) Swimming is more than a sport, it's a memory, one worth reading and sharing, so thank you for sharing the book recommendations.
I can never pass up an opportunity to nerd out about water (or trees). The Bird in the Waterfall by Jerry Dennis was a surprise favorite water book of mine...probably because there is a little mythology mixed into the water science. I don't recall if swimming is mentioned specifically, but being around water is part of the narrative for sure.
Thank you for the suggestions, I have placed them on my "to read" list! Young Woman and the Sea was so inspirationally moving for me - biography of Trudy Ederle, 1st woman to make it across the English Channel. Diana Nyad narrated a play she wrote (I listened on Audible), called The Swimmer. Fantastic. If you like thrillers, there is a series written by Andrew Mayne that is about a protagonist who parlayed her love of water into a water-based law enforcement career. Not necessarily about swimming, she's a scuba diver, but the books are such easy, fun reads!
Thank you for taking time to provide us with a nice list about swimming and how we integrate into our whole being - physically, spiritually, intellectually and socially. It sounds like this list will help me open more to my own purpose, not only in the water, but to life in general. I will look forward to finding them in the library.
I just got Swimming Pretty, The Untold Story of Women in Water by Vicki Valosik—going to start reading it today. 💦
I loved "The Swimmers!" Somewhat related, have you read "The Island of Sea Women" by Lisa See?
It’s on my bedside table in the “To Read” stack. Did you love it?
I did! Highly recommend!

Swimming studies is one of the most beautiful books I've ever read.

So many books, so little time! Thanks so much for the suggestions Jamie. 💙
